Council Member Bios
Councillor Roger Montpellier
Roger fell in love with Lac Ste. Anne at a very young age as his family has owned property near the lake since 1958. Roger personally has owned a cabin in the area since 1971 and became a permanent Val Quentin resident in 1994.
Roger has served on the Tri-Village Sewage Commission during his previous two terms. He was also on the Wild Water Committee from 2010 to 2013. His background in the Electrical Engineering Industry and volunteer work in his community in Edmonton and as past Director and Vice-President of the Maple Leaf Hockey Athletic Club have provided him with excellent resources for his work with the Summer Village and surrounding municipalities.
As the walking trail and flood plan have been completed Roger intends to work at finding methods to mitigate blue green algae and to maintaining and improving the resources and quality of life in Val Quentin.
Mayor Kathy Dion
Kathy Dion was raised on an Angus Beef Farm near Onoway and although she grew up nearby, she wasn’t exposed to “lake” life until she met her husband, Clarence Dion, in 1985. Clarence grew up in Val Quentin and Kathy has been visiting her in-laws ever since. Clarence’s parents are from Gunn and Lac Ste Anne Metis Settlement.
Deputy-Mayor Alan Christiansen
Al grew up with Lac Ste Anne as part of his life as his Grandparents had purchased a
property in Alberta Beach around 1935. His family was active in the community with his
Grandmother being the town administrator (CAO) for 23 years. His dad served on
Council in Alberta Beach as well as assisted with the town policing on weekends.
Al grew up enjoying summers and weekends at the lake with his family, where he
developed many long lasting friendships, as they enjoyed fishing, water skiing,
snowmobiling and the small beach community.
In 1978, shortly after marrying, he purchased his first of many properties, slowly working
up from the small seventy-five year old cabin to a full time residence in 2008.
In 2011 he moved to his current home in Val Quentin, which he had proudly built
himself.
Al retired December 2018 from his role as the Mechanical Supervisor of the Wheel
Motor Department at SMS Equipment, making Val Quentin his place of retirement where
his aging parents, children and great-grandchildren all come together to make great
memories.
Once retired, Al quickly became involved in the Alberta Beach Snowmobile Club where
he has made many friends as they work together to maintain the trail system and
equipment.
Al is looking forward to keeping our small community a wonderful, safe place for families
of all sizes and generations to come together..
